Republic Day Celebration and SUPW Presentation

The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with profound patriotic spirit and purposeful participation at Delhi Public School, Coimbatore. The celebrations, spanning classroom activities and a school-wide ceremonial programme, served as a meaningful reminder of India’s constitutional values and the role of young citizens in upholding the ideals of a sovereign, democratic republic.

As part of the Republic Day observance, age-appropriate activities were conducted across Pre-Nursery to Class XII beginning on 23rd January. These activities were thoughtfully planned to create awareness about the significance of Republic Day, the Indian Constitution, national symbols, and the values of unity, responsibility, and patriotism.

Pre-Nursery and Nursery students participated in creative handprint flag painting, tricolour colouring, kite drawing, and a Postman activity, while learning about the Indian National Flag and proudly wearing pinned flags. Preparatory students recited patriotic rhymes, learnt about national symbols, and coloured the tricolour. Students of Classes I and II engaged in discussions, picture-based learning, videos, drawing, sentence writing, tricolour bow making, and badge-making activities that encouraged creativity and early civic awareness.

For Classes III to V, the celebrations focused on citizenship, responsibility, and national values. Class III students conducted the Community Heroes Parade, integrated with the annual theme Zero Waste, which included poster making, a mini-parade, a library visit, and tricolour-based activities. Class IV students participated in an interactive Patriot Play Off activity through enactments, enhancing their understanding of Republic Day concepts. Class V students took part in the Oath of Unity activity by writing and presenting personal pledges reflecting constitutional values and unity in diversity. These activities were meaningful, engaging, and educational, instilling a deep sense of patriotism, civic duty, and national pride.

Students of Classes VI to XII participated in a range of structured and age-appropriate activities designed to deepen their understanding of the Indian Constitution, democratic values, and the responsibilities of citizens. Through quizzes, poster-making, creative writing, memory wall reflections, newsletters, group projects, poetry, debates, role plays, and discussions, students actively explored themes related to constitutional rights and duties, national leaders, India’s progress, and visions for the nation’s future. These activities encouraged critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, research skills, and effective communication while reinforcing unity in diversity and pride in being citizens of India.

The culmination of the celebrations took place on Republic Day with a school-wide programme. The day began with a Prabhat Pheri, a traditional patriotic rally intended to spread national consciousness. Due to unexpected rainfall, the rally was thoughtfully conducted inside the school buses passing through Laxmi Nagar. Undeterred by the change in plan, students enthusiastically wished the public on Republic Day while the school choir team led melodious patriotic songs. The warm responses from the public and the students’ spirited participation made the Prabhat Pheri a memorable and uplifting experience.

After returning to school, students of Classes IV to XII and parents assembled for the formal celebration. The Student Council members, along with the March Past team, ceremoniously escorted the Head of School, Ms. Maheshwari Natarajan, to the flag post. The hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem, instilled a deep sense of pride and unity among the gathering.

In her address, the Head of School highlighted the essence of the Republic and the significance of constitutional values such as sovereignty, equality, and responsibility. She emphasised that students are not merely future citizens but young citizens of India, actively shaping the nation through awareness, integrity, and action. Her words left an indelible impact, encouraging students to live the spirit of the Constitution in their daily lives.

The cultural programme unfolded through a series of vibrant and meaningful presentations, gracefully compered by Sahana Madan and Pranav. The celebration opened with a soulful instrumental performance by the school band, Guitar Club, and Synthesizer Team, followed by a group song that echoed national pride.

The Ramanujan Club presented an engaging segment on the evolution of numbers and ancient mathematical contributions, including early numeral systems such as the Mayan system, highlighting the world’s rich intellectual heritage. The Quiz Club conducted an interactive quiz on Republic Day and constitutional themes, actively involving parents and creating a lively learning environment. The Tamil Club delivered a powerful speech showcasing linguistic excellence and cultural pride, while the Health and Wellness Club demonstrated essential first-aid techniques, reflecting practical life skills acquired through club activities.

Students of Classes VII A, VII B, VIII A, and VIII B presented visually impactful tableaux on Human Rights and Fundamental Rights, effectively portraying themes of dignity, equality, and protection of rights.

A brief energiser and stretching session led by Mr. Achil Josh, Department of Physical Education, refreshed the audience and added a dynamic element to the programme. The cultural segment concluded with a graceful Bharatanatyam performance by club students from the Junior and Senior Wings, followed by a powerful Silambam performance that showcased discipline, agility, and strength. An expressive Vote of Thanks delivered by Dania Fatima brought the celebration to a graceful and meaningful close.

Following the main programme, students and parents visited the SUPW club kiosks, where clubs such as Robotics, ATAL Tinkering, Calligraphy, Gardening, Photography, School Media, Cryptic Crossword, Terracotta and Sculpting, Thimble Thumbs, and others showcased their year-long work. Students confidently explained their learning processes and outcomes, while parents actively interacted and participated.

The Gardening Club distributed seed samples, the Cryptic Crossword Club engaged visitors with puzzles, and creative clubs displayed their artistic achievements. The SUPW exhibition stood as a testament to experiential learning and socially useful productive work.

Refreshments were served to parents and students, and feedback was collected. The 77th Republic Day celebration was truly a day of pride, reflection, and meaningful engagement, reinforcing the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible, aware, and empowered citizens of India.
